Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis cover Serge Gainsbourg

Admittedly, this post is more for the headline than the music - but just take a minute to let that sentence sink in: Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have covered Serge Gainsbourg.

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis – Ballade de Melody Nelson

Fans of pervy French lounge pop will be pleased to know that this comes from an album of Gainsbourg covers, produced by his son Lulu. Also featuring are Rufus Wainwright, Iggy Pop and Scarlett Johansson, who turns in a listlessly romantic performance on Bonnie & Clyde.

The album, From Lulu To Gainsbourg, is available for pre-order on Amazon. Me, I'm off to spend the day watching Vanessa Paradis videos on Youtube. I always loved that album she did with Lenny Kravitz in the early 1990s, in an unashamedly non-ironic way (yes, even the inexplicably faithful cover of the Velvet Underground's drug anthem Waiting For The Man).

Web turns on Scarlett Johannson

Scarlett Johannson made an album of Tom Waits cover versions. Yes, you heard right, an entire album.

But hold your horses because the first single, Falling Down, is nowhere near as bad as you might think. In fact, it reminds me of some of Kevin Shields' sublime tracks on the Lost In Translation soundtrack. Maybe that's not such a surprise, given that Johannson sang backing vocals on stage with Shields' favourite band, The Jesus and Mary Chain, at last year's Coachella Festival.

But the denizens of the internet are not happy. Here's a sample of what they've written on the Johannson's Youtube page:

Lil Missae: " She criticized Paris Hilton's music and promised hers would be better. She lied."

Waterychan: "This has just given me yet another reason to hate her. She's a shit actress, and a shit singer. Fabulous."

Derekondemand: "Sounds like something froma german party?"

Mattrosencrance: "She should try being a stock broker instead of singing." [or an actress, perhaps, Matt?]

Oh dear...

Personally, after giving it a few listens (three), I'm really getting into it. What do you think?

Shocking!

Since Madonna went all mumsy on us, there's been a sad lack of stars willing to talk about their bedroom activities.

But - drop your knickers and jump for joy - the embargo appears to have been broken!

Angelina Jolie has been boasting about lezzing up with her mates to OK! Magazine, and Benicio Del Toro is doing his best to let everyone know he boffed Scarlett Johansson in a lift.

"It might not be the last time either," he says. Dirty bugger.
